THE SCI-FI + FANTASY CLASS!

Monday, April 29, 2024

04:00 PM - 05:30 PM

(America - New York)

WHY SHOULD I TAKE THIS CLASS?

  • Self-taping is a game of over-thinking everything. Add weird sci-fi language and fantasy-like creatures and dialects and it's easy to get lost down the rabbit hole.
  • Sci-Fi and Fantasy projects are often SUPER SECRET, leaving you with dummy sides and huge gaps in context. This class will help you pick through the mess and focus on some key clues.
  • Sci-Fi and Fantasy are DIFFERENT! They each have certain genre hallmarks and performance styles. Do you know what they are? (Erica does!)

This class will take actors through three genre self-tape exercises, helping participants discover these epic worlds while honing in on character specifics.

  • Actors will self-tape three different exercises, one from each sci-fi and fantasy, and one of the participant's choosing!
  • Actors will meet in a weekly live to watch tapes and hear Erica's feedback, tips and suggestions. (Zooms are recorded and available for playback!)
  • Erica will provide additional resources and information along the way, including videos, articles, scripts, etc.

Here's what other actors have said about Erica's online self-taping classes:

This class was badass; I'm so happy, after 2 waitlists, that I finally got in! Your feedback was detailed and constructive, not harmful or damaging, while still gently pushing for high standards within our work. I personally really appreciated your approach, which was to see the artist in front of you and give feedback based on what they created, instead of only seeing the scene one way and giving the same notes to everyone. To see everyone else's selftapes AND their feedback was pure gold. - Rachel M.

Seriously GUSHING over the Sci-Fi/Fantasy class. It was a total game changer and has already set me on the right path to give my best audition. I realized that in my auditions I often got distracted and honestly... burdened by the action in the scene vs focusing on what's important - the acting! Aside from all the advice and guidance I simply must mention how much I appreciate your spirit, generosity, kindness and humor that you share with us whilst nurturing actors to level up. You made it fun to get feedback! And the format of this class for working actors is GENIUS! THANK YOU from the bottom of my artistic heart. - John S.

It's been a minute since I took your SciFi workshop, but the information you gave is still with me today. I'm currently watching THE FOUNDATION on AppleTV and with every scene I end up thinking, "Wow. That's exactly what Erica was talking about," down to simple things like diction and pace. - Kalyn H.

For one thing, I have now been spiked with the absolute BEST CD WORKSHOP FORMAT ever. I loved getting to show my best attempt and having that reviewed, and getting to see the best that others had. And I actually felt like I walked away with things I could use at the next opportunity. I have to admit that despite my best efforts I come out of workshops feeling a bit drained…definitely not after yours. And of course I think I speak for everyone when I say that your warmth, attention to detail, and love of the craft really helped me level up and enjoy the process. - Heather W.

Just wanted to say thank you for such an incredible Sci-Fi class! It was such a pleasure getting to meet you, and I learned so much from you too! I also wanted to let you know how much I appreciated your teaching style. You are succinct and constructive, all while being supportive and uplifting! I know you spent a lot of time working on the feedback for class as well, so thank you for all of the time that you put in! This was an absolute treat! - Josh G.
